MISSION

The Culture Crossing mission is to foster cross-cultural understanding and awareness by inviting the global community to share their knowledge and experiences with others. We hope that the result will be a repository of essential information that will be useful to travelers, businesses, students and anyone else who steps beyond their cultural borders.  Culture Crossing’s Web site and additional services are intended to help people navigate our increasingly interconnected world with savvy and sensitivity.

CONCEPT

Culture Crossing provides users with valuable cultural information about every country. It’s a dynamic database, built and kept up-to-date by its own community of registered members from around the world.

Culture Crossing also provides tools for understanding your own culture, by exploring the values, communications styles and other elements that guide your actions, interactions and reactions.

More than just a crash course in cross-cultural etiquette, Culture Crossing is also a place where you can:

  • Ask questions, share information and interact with community members.
  • Read interviews with well-known actors, musicians, writers, politicians and others about their culture crossing experiences.
  • Test your cultural IQ by taking the weekly quizzes.
  • Find useful information and access resources to help you plan for a trip abroad – whether you are preparing for an international business trip, study abroad program or any other kind of cross-cultural adventure.

FOUNDERS

Michael Landers was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but raised overseas, living in Colombia, Brazil and the Dominican Republic. After receiving a BA in International Relations, Michael moved to Japan where he taught English and opened a cross-cultural training firm focused on preparing Japanese professionals and their families for life in the United States.  Upon returning to the US, he obtained a MA in Intercultural Training and Management at Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  After working for several years in international human resources in New York City, Michael established his own company, Culture Crossing, to provide international executive recruiting, coaching, and training for the global marketplace. Michael also shares his expertise with others by lecturing at schools and universities across the country on subjects such as intercultural communication, marketing, negotiation, and management, among other topics.  When he’s not working or traveling, Michael can be found playing soccer, studying languages, or walking on the beach with Callaloo-- an 80 pound hound that he rescued from a local shelter.

Lisa Grossman is an award-winning producer and writer whose body of work includes documentary productions, museum exhibitions and educational publications. Over the past decade her work has taken her to 25 countries and 5 continents. Her most recent documentary productions include an Emmy nominated feature-length film (Year on Earth) and educational series about some of the world’s most pressing environmental issues for Discovery Networks, and a program about American culture for Smithsonian Networks.  Lisa’s career began at National Geographic Film & Television where she worked to develop and produce a wide range of documentaries and historically based feature films. She later became an independent producer/writer for a broad range of television networks, non-profit organizations, and travel publications. Her most recent exhibition work was featured at the National Building Museum (The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture & Design) and the American Museum of Natural History (The Hall of Ocean Life), both of which opened to wide acclaim.  When she’s not working or traveling, Lisa can often be found on her bicycle or sipping tea and eating dark chocolate on her porch.
